How To Get Rid Of Cat Smell In House

Make Your House a No-Marking Zone

If your cat is a prolific marker, it’s important that you understand why they’re doing it. Cats will urinate in places they mark to let other animals know they’ve been there, but this also makes them feel more secure and relaxed. However, if your cat has never been outside before then there are some simple things you can do to make sure he or she doesn’t go outside at all:

  • Keep your front door locked at all times and keep any windows closed that have screens on them. Make sure to check the locks on these doors before leaving the house as well because cats can fit through pretty small gaps!
  • Don’t let your kitty out of their room unless absolutely necessary for feeding or litter box maintenance (and even then be careful!).

Now that we’ve made sure no one can come in without permission…

Trouble-Shoot the Problem

  • Check the litter box.
  • Check the food and water.
  • Check the litter box location.
  • Check the litter box size and type of litter you have.
  • Check the depth of your cat’s litter box, as this can affect whether or not they use it correctly or not.

Most importantly: make sure your cat has somewhere to go!

Clean, Clean and then Clean Some More

  • Clean, clean and then clean some more.
  • After you’ve cleaned the cat box and your hands, wash the walls where the litter box is located.
  • If your cat has an area of the house where he likes to go to bed; that means in your bed or on a sofa or chair, this area needs to be cleaned often too. Cats shed hair everywhere they go so having a place for them where they can sleep or stretch out will collect all of those hairs which then get tracked around by the cat’s paws when he walks through it. This creates a problem with odor as well as an eye-sore due to all of those stray hairs sticking up everywhere!

Baking Soda is your Best Friend

Baking soda is a great odor neutralizer and you can use it to clean the litter box, sprinkle it on your carpet, clean the carpet with baking soda or even spray it onto your couch and couches. You can also use this in combination with white vinegar to make your own homemade cleaning solution (1 cup of vinegar with 1 teaspoon of baking soda). If you want to get rid of the smell from the outside, try sprinkling some baking soda on areas that tend to be smelly like under bushes or near garbage cans.

Up the Ante with Vinegar

Vinegar is a great alternative to bleach. It’s a natural deodorizer, disinfectant, stain remover and cleaner.

Vinegar works well on wood floors and other surfaces that are hardwood or laminate. Spray vinegar directly onto the wood surface and then use a sponge or non-abrasive cloth to wipe it off.

Clear Out the Litter Box

The first thing you should do is empty the litter box daily, and clean it with a mild soap and water. This will help to reduce odors as well as prevent any bacteria build-up in both the box itself and on your cat’s paws.

If you want to go an extra step, use a disinfectant spray or baking soda/vinegar mix once every week or two when cleaning out the litter box. But if you only have time for one thing, make sure to empty your cat’s waste from its tray each day!

Ditch Those Carpets

If you want to remove the foul smells of your cat, then it’s time to ditch those carpets.

Carpets are a big source of cat odors because they’re difficult to clean, and they’re also a major source of cat hair. That fur can stick around for years, even with regular vacuuming. Carpets can also be a source of dander and urine since cats like to crawl under them when they feel stressed out or unwell (which is often).

Don’t Neglect Soft Furnishings

  • Don’t neglect soft furnishings.
  • Pillows, cushions and curtains are all potential hiding places for cat pee and poop. If you’re going to have a problem with any of these smells in your home then they need to be cleaned as soon as possible.
  • The best way to remove the smell of urine is by using an enzyme cleaner that contains hydrogen peroxide or another oxidizer along with an odor neutralizer like baking soda or vinegar. You can also try spraying down all areas where it may have been deposited with a diluted bleach solution (1/4 cup per gallon of water). After that you simply need to rinse it off completely before letting it dry completely for at least 24 hours so no more residue comes up when you go over things again later on down the track!

Change Their Diet

One of the most important things you can do to help your cats is change their diet. Cats who eat a lot of processed food are more likely to have bad breath and smell, and they’re also much more likely to spray. By switching your cat’s diet to something that’s healthier, you can help them avoid these issues while also improving their overall health.

If you’re not sure what foods are best for your cat, talk with your vet or check out some websites online (such as our own). You may even want to consider making homemade meals instead of buying food at the store—it might seem time-consuming at first but it saves money in the long run! If all else fails then simply try changing brands until something works better for both of you

Failing That, Get Rid Of Your Cat… Probably Not What You Were Looking For. Sorry!

If you’re willing to get rid of your cat, then that is totally a solution. We’ll leave that one up to you. If not, we hope at least one of these methods will help alleviate your smells, and remind you that it’s not the end of the world!

A clean cat is a happy cat, and you will be happier too.

In conclusion, it can be very rewarding to have a cat in your life. But you need to do your best not just for them but for yourself as well. You don’t want to live with the smell of pee and poo all day every day, so make sure you get rid of that odor from time to time!
